What a weird week, Friday, December 19th, 2025. You will be visited by 10 weird ghosts or weird news stories. Hi, everybody. It's weird. This is like crazy. Really? Weird. Well, I got a great show for you. It was so wonderful. Weird stuff. Hi, friends. I am Scott. If you celebrate the Christmas, well, Merry Christmas to you.
00:25
Cards on the table. is our holiday special. Most of the stories we get into are going to be Christmas related or Christmas adjacent or holidays themed. You can get everything we talk about on our show notes page, which is show notes dot page. 10 is the man in Germany who collected 11,000 snow globes. He's been collecting a long time. He's got all different snow globes. They're all on a shelf. If you don't have a chance to click the picture, let me paint a picture for you. Snow globes on shelves.
00:56
The end. says the oldest one he has Eiffel Tower themed snow globe from 1889. I would think there's no shaking that one anymore. It's hands off the old one probably, right? Number nine. Number nine is the highly romantic kissing under the mistletoe world record. 1435 couples in DC, United States of America, kissed under the mistletoe. So 1400 and some people kissing under the mistletoe.
01:24
That's a world record. Imagine what that sounded like. If they're all kissing it when they're smooching all at the same time, mean, I feel like that would sound gross, but maybe not. Maybe it's the sound of romance and mistletoe. mean, Christmas time, Christmas romance. That's what it's all about. Number eight is about a giant inflatable Santa Claus, a 28 foot Santa Claus in Colorado.
01:50
which a family put up. This is not a used car lot or something like that. This is a family who has a 28 foot tall inflatable Santa Claus. That's what I'm talking about. Most people I would imagine would enjoy that. You can get away with giant things at Christmas time, giant trees, giant inflatable Santa Claus. So they got a note from the homeowners association, the family in Colorado, and the note said,
02:16
The Santa Claus located in your backyard is excessive in height. Please remove immediately. So these days, what you could do is if the homeowners association are being a bunch of grinches and you think you're justified to have your giant, joyous, jolly Santa Claus in your yard, well, you can go on social media and tell your side of the story. That's what this family did. And it worked. The homeowners association sent another letter an apology and they said,
02:45
Whatever you got going on, it's spreading the joy. Keep that going. Giant Santa family. Number seven is the Christmas Comet that many people have been looking forward to. We talked about 31 Atlas before, partly because some people were saying it was an alien spacecraft or asking the question, what if this is some sort of invasion and not really a comet? But mostly all the experts agree. Comet. It's a comet.
03:12
There are some things about it that make it stranger than most comets. And the experts are very excited or the researchers very excited about it because it's only the third time that something from outside the solar system has come into our solar system. It's interstellar, baby! And you cannot see it with the naked eye. You would need a device of some sort, perhaps a telescope. The experts aren't quite sure how big it is. That's another thing they're trying to figure out. It could be hundreds of yards across or perhaps miles across.
03:42
And if you're hearing this in your bunker because you knew 31 Atlas was approaching Earth and you thought, well, not taking any chances just in case it's an alien invasion. Thank you for listening. If I had a bunker, I'd be in there too. Number six is about the Grinch. An article out this week from someone who studies anatomy and biology, wondering what kind of animal the Grinch is. Can we piece it together based on the photographic evidence we have of the Grinch? If you're not familiar, the Grinch,
04:11
hated Christmas and cruelly stole Christmas from an entire community and then had a change of heart literally and came to love Christmas. And what kind of animal is the Grinch? The article leaves it a bit open-ended. So, still a cryptid like Bigfoot. How come nobody ever wrote a book about Bigfoot stealing a holiday? Who wants to collab on that? DM me. We're going to be rich.
04:39
Number five. Number five is not a Christmas story. This one, a bit of a deviation from the holiday stories we've been doing, but could save your life maybe or your relationship or both. It could save your life and relationship. So this one is about how for a long time it's been believed that if you have a romantic partner, if you're in a relationship and you need cardiac care, you've had some sort of cardiac issue, your recovery will be better when you have a romantic partner.
05:07
And it would seem the evidence backs that up. But one of the things that hasn't been looked at very much is what if you have a bad relationship? Yes, you're married or whatever, you have a romantic partner, but who mama, that's a roller coaster ride. That relationship. Well, that is not as good for your recovery. Finally, there's some data about this. They're digging a little deeper and if you have a healthy relationship, that is much better for your health.
05:36
So in the future, one of the things they might be able to do if you were in a situation where you need to recover from a cardiac episode and you're in a relationship, maybe your physician will say, Hey, how's the marriage? Hey, we think you should go to couples counseling as part of your recovery. That might be the future of cardiac care. four is the article that crunched the numbers on the ingredients for cookies and determined that it will cost you eight bucks and something American.
06:05
to leave cookies out for Santa Claus. They price the ingredients for the cookies. They say cookies and milk is up 31 % from last year. Egg prices are having a big impact on Santa's cookies. Maybe just leave Santa like a note. Now, if you're on the naughty list, you need all the help you can get. Bake those cook, you got to bake the cookies. It's gonna cost you a bit, but, and they have to be, no pressure, but they have to be delicious.
06:33
You got to score some points with Santa. Number three is about how dangerous it can be at Christmas time in different places in the United States of America. They say Vermont is the most dangerous place at Christmas time. It has an 8.55 out of 10 danger score. Somebody does the research and they assign places a danger score for Christmas. I mean, it might safe you up a little bit like.
06:59
There are fire risks and different things, know, bad driving conditions, all of that. Maybe you want to read the list. The safest place is Mississippi because they say it's a 5.4 out of 10. They have a very low snow probability in Mississippi. Shout out to our friends in Mississippi. Please be safe this holiday season. If you want to look at the list, we'll link to it in the show notes. Click show notes dot page. um two is not a Christmas story, but
07:26
came out this week that popular music has gotten sadder over the last 50 years. They crunched the numbers. They looked at, well, listen to 20,000 and some songs from the Billboard top 100. Lyrics are getting less complicated and songs are getting sadder. That's kind of the broad takeaway from this. If you want to do a deep dive, perhaps you're a music buff. This might be one you want to bring up when you're gathered with friends and family this holiday season. Maybe you're at a holiday party and maybe the party is getting too raucous and there's
07:55
Too much joy. Bring up the article about the sad songs. Ask people to sing their favorite sads. What song makes you cry? That will take the party that's almost out of control and rein it back in. Everyone will cry and go home. Number one. Number one. We're going to finish up with a Christmas story, a happy story about Dave Purchase who sang Christmas music for 42 hours straight. No, I would do that just for fun.
08:25
But it turns out if you do it for 42 hours straight, that's a world record. Dave did it. Gotta wait for the official okay from the Guinness Book of World Records, folks. But way to go, Dave. Singing Christmas music for 42 hours.
08:45
I don't wanna love for Christmas This is just one thing I need Dave, I for one respect that choice. You didn't go for the obvious cover version. We had to wait and see what the heck that song was. Turns out it was Mariah Carey. Well done, Dave. And Merry Christmas. Happy World Record.
09:10
Alright, that is that. Thank you for listening to What a Weird Week. If you want any of the stories we talked about or if you want to learn about our podcast and stuff, can go to shownotes.page. That's where we put the show notes and all the other stuff. If you are celebrating, I say to you Merry Christmas and all the best of the season. If you're not celebrating, I still have well wishes for you too. I hope life is treating you fantastically.
09:36
We'll catch you next Friday with more fun and weird stories from the news on what a weird
