The final report on New Brunswick's mysterious
neurological illness has been delayed and is now expected to be released
in January, according to the province's chief medical officer (New Brunswick to release final report on neurological illness in January).
The investigation began in 2021 to study dozens of patients exhibiting
unusual symptoms like memory loss and hallucinations, and this final
report is being completed with federal collaboration.
*Notes/ The Takeaway:
- most reporting calls this a 'mystery neurological illness'.
- the Gov of NB says their investigation is into a potentially undiagnosed neurological illness.
- the first investigation into what's going on indicated that this is not a mystery illness, but rather a cluster of known illnesses. See (https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/mystery-neurological-disease-new-brunswick-journal-american-medical-association-1.7527682) and also (https://www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/departments/health/neuro-cluster/investigation.html)
- a new study was launched and that's the delayed report which is expected to be released in January.

Effective January 1, 2026, the change will also reduce costs for about 2,100 existing clients and is considered a positive first step by advocates.
