Wait a minute. King Tut had a big dumper? Did you know King Tut had a big dumper? What a weird week. Hi everybody, it's Weird. This is like Crazy Boom Heel.  Weird. Really weird.  Bigfoot eats out of my trash. Well, I got a great joke for you. It was so wonderful.  Weird stuff.  It is Friday, September 4th, 2026. The time of recording here is your Weird News Update featuring some of the weird news.

00:27
Some of those odd stories and some of the fun things from the news.  call this program What a Weird Week. Friends, my name is Scott. Thank you for being here. Oh, if you want to get our show notes or more details about our podcast or anything,  show notes dot page. That's where the show notes are. Show notes dot page. Number 10. All right. Starting off with one I hate because we've been living a lie. We've all been living a lie. Number 10 is.

00:55
Your smartwatch might be terrible at keeping track of how many calories you burned.  The headline from Popular Science, we link to the article.  Your smartwatch might be overestimating, overestimating.  Listen,  we're trying to go with no edits this week.  one of those weeks.  So as I sound increasingly intoxicated,  which I'm not, I'm just terrible at doing this. Please bear with me. No edits. OK.

01:25
Let's start again. Your smartwatch might be overestimating calories burned by 25%. That's the headline from Popular Science. That's not an insubstantial amount.  Those times where you thought you got your 10,000 steps in, you were high-fiving your walking partners and feeling great about yourself. That could have all been a lie. The time you went 12,000 steps and you were like, I'm getting ice cream. I've earned it. Well,

01:55
That ice cream might've been under false pretenses.  False pretense ice cream. All those times we're burning calories feeling great and then eating cake because we put the work in and now it's cake time. All of that. It might all be a lie because our smartwatches might be overestimating how many calories we burn. And I'll tell you right now, I feel awful about living this lie. I'm going to

02:25
Quit exercising and just eat cake. That's how I cope. And if there's a class action lawsuit, somebody please inbox me because I mean, I don't even have a smartwatch, but I'm still going to eat cake and try to join the class action lawsuit.  Number nine. OK, number nine. I never paid attention in history class. So you tell me if this was covered. I regret that, by the way. I wish I would have paid more attention in history class. I don't recall this.

02:54
being covered. That King Tut had a big dumper.  We link to an article in Popular Science.  The headline is King Tut was buried with more than a hundred pairs of underwear, all tailored to fit his massive butt. King Tut, big butt.  I think I should stop there on that. They get into more details. So if you want to read that, click the show notes. I'm going to be out on

03:24
King Tot Big Butt. Could be my finest moment.  Number eight. Number eight is another wonderful story from the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas, United States of America. Hello to our friends in Arkansas. You have a state park where you can go. It's called the Crater of Diamonds and it lives up to its name. Every so often we have a story of somebody who has visited the Crater of Diamonds State Park and they have found a diamond and have left.

03:54
from their state park vacation richer. This time around it is a grandpa named Barry who didn't think they would find anything at the, you know, they just went for fun just to have some time at the state park. It's beautiful. You go to the state park, enjoy yourself, but you can rent some diamond finding equipment, things for digging, I guess. You can rent that there at the crater of diamond state park.

04:20
So grandpa Barry just having some fun on vacation from Tennessee and found a rock or stone.  Didn't think it was a diamond,  but never throw those things away. If you ever find something at the crater of diamond state park, never throw them away.  Barry grandpa, Barry put the thing in his pocket. Later on, you get back to the discovery center. You can show it to an employee and say, what do you think about this? And the employee said, grandpa Barry,

04:50
I'm paraphrasing, Grandpa Barry, I believe you got a diamond on your hands. And it was two point some carats yellow diamond, which the internet told me would be worth between five and $10,000. So I need to go to there. I think it is wonderful Arkansas that you have a state park where you can go and look for diamonds. And if you find a diamond, you can keep the thing. Like, I'm still baffled by that.

05:19
I just think that is wonderful and uplifting story of finding riches.  Number seven. Number seven is the mystery statue that was found in a backyard in San Francisco,  United States of America. A fellow was digging in the yard and there's like this big rock and he's like, I'm getting this rock out of my yard. I am going to pry this rock out and then noticed that the rock was staring back at him, had eyeballs and lips.

05:48
It was a statue. Kind of a bust. A face. Maybe two feet tall. Maybe a little wider than two feet across.  And they say they estimate it weighs 150 pounds. If you don't have a chance to click, I will link to the article and you can see a photo of what the statue looks like. But if you don't have a chance, it's a bust of a face or a head, know, long hair and the face. The expression is not menacing.

06:17
doesn't seem evil. That's what I'd be scared of.  It's happy either. It's kind of a blank expression. Like when you first get out of bed and you're like, oh, that's what this statue looks like. But where did it come from? Oh, I will warn you to there. There's a photo of the statue. And then also included in the article is the fellow who found the statue stripped down to the waist.

06:45
knelt down in his backyard next to the statue. Kind of looks like a Tinder profile. I don't know. I'm not. What? I've been married a million years. I don't know from Tinder. It's how I would imagine a Tinder profile photo would go. Look, I'm not saying he's on Tinder. I'm pretty sure he's not. The article talks about a spouse or a significant other. They found the statue together, kind of. What I'm going to do now is just dial down the Tinder talk.

07:11
There are a couple of theories about where the statue came from, but nobody knows for sure right now to be continued.  Number six, where I live in East Coast, Canada, most kids go back to school after Labor Day. So this is the back to school portion of our program.  The teacher in Georgia who made headlines, if you missed it, the Internet loves this story and loves this teacher for solving a problem for her grade two class. Now.

07:38
I know in Canada, mostly we refer to it as grade two, perhaps where you are, you would say second grade. But, you know, we're talking about young kids and the issue was the kids passing gas in class,  classroom gas.  And so this teacher,  Candy, Candy came up with a solution. It is a special section of the classroom, a corner where you go, a farting corner, corner where you will go to pass gas.

08:07
She doesn't call it the farting corner because Candy is clever. Candy calls it the gas station.  When kids go to the gas station, it's to pass gas so it won't be disruptive for the learning process. That's kind of the whole story in a nutshell. If you'd like to read the thing, I will link to that in the show notes.  Number five. I don't know if we've ever had a story out of Cairo, Egypt on our program. And I do want to take.

08:37
The chance to say hello to our three listeners, according to the metrics, in Cairo, Egypt. Thank you for listening. So this one is the it happened late last month in Cairo and you wouldn't believe it except somebody got it on like got footage of it. The chicken heists, frozen chicken heist. Like a scene from a heist movie, except in the movie it would be they'd be heisting cash or gold or something, diamonds. In this case, it's frozen chicken.

09:07
And the heisters do the chicken heist while everyone's rolling down the highway. Like it is an in motion heist, like a scene from a movie where the pickup truck catches up to the truck that has the frozen chicken. And right on the chicken trucks bumper. And then they start unloading the chicken truck, getting the frozen chicken off the chicken truck.

09:35
while everyone's still in motion on the highway.  A daring heist. And perhaps bonkers, like it seems bonkers to me.  Very dangerous.  But they heisted that frozen chicken.

09:55
So that's a little bit of the footage. I'll link to that. Click the show notes. You can check it out if you have a second.  four. This one is the parrot rescue. I'm going to play the clip from Fox News. San Francisco firefighters came to the rescue when a parrot got its head stuck between glass panels on a third floor balcony under construction.  A firefighter was able to slide the green bird's head free.  Oh, he's so cute. So thank you first responders.  You get up in the morning.

10:24
and you put on your uniform and you never know what you're going to encounter that day running towards danger, helping people, in this case, rescuing a parrot.  Thank you for what you do.  In that clip from Fox News, I'll link to it. The reason I included it. First, if you don't have a chance to click, it's an apartment building patio instead of fencing around the patio. It is glass. You've seen that style before.

10:50
And between one panel of glass and the next panel of glass, there's a little space and this curious parrot got its head stuck in there. And I almost skipped this story. We get a lot of stories. Animal rescue or the animal that escaped and is captured. But this one is just I just want you to click and see the picture of the parrot. The parrot seems so happy to be rescued and wrapped up in a cozy towel.  The happy parrot. If you do have a chance to click.

11:19
I'll put a link in the show notes and enjoy the happy parrot image. Number three. Couple of shout outs with this one. First, Ben Hoops Hooper, who did the write up for United Press International.  Ben Hoops Hooper is a weird news guru over at UPI. And it's been a while since we sent a shout out also to the Edmonton River Hawks baseball team in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, planet Earth.

11:45
This summer they hosted a world record attempt involving a dog, a pooch named Chardonnay.  And they lined up, 56 people lined up,  sort of hunched over as though you're staring down at the grass. Like maybe there was something fascinating on the ball field. What's going on down there? And everybody is lined up and hunched over that way. And then Chardonnay runs across the backs of 56 people and that's a world record.

12:13
That is world domination. That's what world domination looks like when Chardonnay the dog went across 56 people's backs.

12:27
A lot of excitement, Chardonnay looks happy about it, like on task and knew what the assignment was. I don't know what I'm talking about anymore. Let's move on, but we'll link to the video.  And that is the world record, the dog running across people's backs.  two, another tale of world domination, this time involving socks and man from South Carolina,  United States of America, planet Earth, a man named Darrell has 2000 pairs of socks. He began collecting socks.

12:57
He received a gift of socks one Father's Day. And Darryl thought, socks? I don't know actually what Darryl thought, but he kept collecting them and now he has 2000 pairs of socks. He is in the headlines for having many socks. He doesn't even have the official Guinness World Record yet. He could. He has enough socks, but he's biding his time before he actually applies for the record. That is kind of the gist of the article.  Man with many socks.

13:26
Wants to get more socks. That's kind of... Maybe I rewrote the headline. There, I rewrote it. Saved you a click. Number one. Last week we had a repeat episode of our program. I had to work all this overtime. We couldn't put out a new episode. So this story is a little late, but it's important. Number one story this week. A headline from Metro UK. Loch Ness Monster Sightings shatter last year's record.

13:55
after swishing tail spotted.  So a couple of things. More sightings of the Loch Ness Monster in 2026 than there were in 2025. And the latest one they're talking about is an Australian tourist who claims to have seen a swishing tail in Loch Ness. And a lot of people believe if you're a true believer in the Loch Ness Monster, you also believe that the Loch Ness Monster has a tail and it would seem

14:24
logical that that tail would swish.

14:29
So, join me, true believers. This is the year we finally capture the Loch Ness Monster. And I'm not talking about some grainy photograph. I'm talking about putting a giant dog collar around the Loch Ness Monster and walking it down the street. Or some other way to prove it exists. don't know. Walking it down the street is pretty good though.

14:56
You know what? I'll stop there. I'm going to link to the photo, some of the grainy images of the Loch Ness monster? Question mark.  I'll link to all of that in the show notes. And I do want to say thank you for checking out our program. It is called What a Weird Week. My name is Scott. If you want to get in touch or find out anything about our show or get to the show notes, everything is on the show notes page at show notes dot page. Hope you have a great weekend week passage of time.

15:25
And we'll catch you next Friday with more weird stories from the news on What a Weird Week.
