A new pedestrian-activated traffic signal is now operational at the intersection of Mountain Road and the extension of Worthington Avenue to improve pedestrian safety (New Traffic Signal in Operation on Mountain Road | City of Moncton). While the signals are active, the connecting street will remain closed to traffic until the new year, and motorists are advised to be cautious in the area.
 
The Dieppe Fire Department will be conducting a training exercise on December 19 and 22 in the area of Champlain Street and Arsenault Road, near the airport (https://www.dieppe.ca/en/nouvelles/exercice-d-entrainement-du-service-d-incendie-de-dieppe.aspx). Expect to see emergency vehicles and personnel in the area/ please avoid the location if possible to allow the exercise to proceed smoothly.  

 

The City of Moncton has announced the full program for its fourth annual New Year's Eve Family Fun Fest, which will take place in Downtown Place on December 31 (Moncton Announces Full New Year's Eve Family Fun Fest Program | City of Moncton). The event will feature live music, a Moncton Wildcats game, and two fireworks displays, including an early show for families and a traditional countdown at midnight.

Codiac Transpo has announced a modified holiday schedule from Dec. 24, 2025, to Jan. 1, 2026, with no bus service on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day (Codiac Transpo Announces 2025-2026 Holiday Schedule | City of Moncton). Service will end early on Christmas Eve, while a special free New Year's Eve service will be offered on select routes from 6 p.m. until 2:40 a.m.

An NB Power executive has acknowledged that a proposed natural gas plant in Centre Village will likely impact the well water in the Sackville region (Gas plant will 'likely' impact well water: NB Power VP | Telegraph-Journal). While the utility states the plant is necessary for meeting peak electricity demand, the project faces local opposition and still requires further environmental and regulatory approval.
   
Across the Maritimes, flu cases are rising two to three weeks earlier than in previous years, putting a significant strain on the healthcare system (Flu cases on the rise earlier this season). Health officials are urging the public to get vaccinated as positive test rates are substantially higher than last year, with the peak of the season expected to last for several weeks.
 
The New Brunswick government has released a provincial strategy with the goal of reducing chronic homelessness by 40 per cent by 2028-29 (New Brunswick releases provincial strategy on homelessness). The plan, developed with community partners, focuses on prevention, expanding supportive housing, and improving access to essential services.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, 2025 was a year of costly weather extremes, with the second-worst wildfire season in the nation's history ranking as the most significant event (These were Canada’s ‘most significant’ weather events, from floods to fires - National | Globalnews.ca). The report highlights that such events are becoming more common and expensive due to climate change, as Canada is currently not on track to meet its 2030 emissions-reduction goals.
