- Provincial/ Regional News

To combat hospital overcrowding, NB's Horizon Health has launched "diversion teams" in several emergency departments to assess if patients can be treated at home. The pilot program has already shown early success by diverting hundreds of admissions and saving an estimated $3.3 million in costs (New Brunswick health: Program tackles hospital overcapacity).

icymi, NB's new province-wide paramedic deployment model will keep rural paramedics in their assigned communities, a change the paramedic association says will benefit underserved areas (New Brunswick ambulance changes will benefit rural communities: paramedic association - New Brunswick | Globalnews.ca).

More info on new rules for NB fishers: New Brunswick's new rule requiring anglers to keep-and-not-release certain invasive fish species only applies in specific regions. Angling associations would like clearer communication from the government to ensure anglers understand the area-specific regulations (N.B. invasive fish retention strategy causing some confusion).

The NB opposition is raising concerns after the company expected to take over the province's virtual health care, Foundever Group Inc, had its credit rating downgraded. This article quotes provincial PC health critic Bill Hogan as saying "What’s going to happen if we actually transition to them and they go bankrupt?" (Questions raised about change in N.B. virtual health care). The government says there will be a smooth transition with no disruption to patient care. Icymi, the contract with the current provider has been extended to ~July.

New Brunswick is offering a spring COVID-19 booster shot to high-risk individuals, including seniors and the immunocompromised, with the campaign running from April 7 to June 26. Eligible residents can begin booking appointments this Saturday through the provincial scheduler, by phone, or at participating pharmacies (N.B. news: COVID boosters available this spring). - National News & Beyond

Article about what to expect for gas prices in Canada: (If Iran war were to end, how soon would you feel relief at the gas pumps? - National | Globalnews.ca). Experts warn that even if the war in Iran were to end, consumers shouldn't expect immediate relief at the gas pump. It could take weeks or even months for prices to normalize.

Climate scientists warn that Canada could face a "super El Niño" (essentially hot high-pressure sytems) later in 2026. This would increase the risk of extreme events like droughts and storms (Super El Nino: What is it and will it happen in Canada?), might mean more lake-effect storms in Eastern Canada.
