RCMP have identified the 39-year-old woman found dead in a Moncton garbage bin and are investigating her death as a homicide, though her name has not been released (Moncton homicide victim identified by police). Investigators are still working to determine the cause of death and are asking the public for any information that could assist the Major Crime Unit. 
  
Moncton city council has approved a pilot project for dedicated 24/7 RCMP patrols downtown, beginning March 1, to increase police visibility and prevent crime (City to begin pilot project of downtown police patrols | Telegraph-Journal). Alongside the patrols, the city is creating a Community Resilience Fund to support small businesses impacted by property crime. 
 
Moncton City Council has approved up to $1.7 million to help a non-profit group build a new seniors centre at the former Kiwanis pool site on Limerick Street (City council approves funding for new seniors centre | Telegraph-Journal). The funding is conditional on the group developing a business plan that demonstrates the long-term financial sustainability of the proposed 20,000-square-foot facility. 

 

A 65-year-old Moncton man has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to robbing the Brunswick Credit Union in Riverview (Senior sentenced to six years for knocking over credit union | Telegraph-Journal).
