Two Comets AND Meteor Showers in One Month: Swan and Lemmon Should Be Visible in October along with Orionids

Scotty

WHAT: Two comets, Lemmon (C/2025 A6) and SWAN (C/2025 R2).

WHERE:

- Comet SWAN: Look to the southwestern sky after sunset

- Comet Lemmon: Look to the northeast (toward the Big Dipper) in evening *but it'll be best before dawn.

WHEN:

- Comet SWAN: closest to Earth on October 19th.

- Comet Lemmon: closest to Earth on October 21.

- *BOTH should be visible on Halloween night Oct 31st!! *Comet predicting is not an exact science so, subject to change*

METEOR SHOWERS TOO?!
- Besides comets, we also get the Orionid meteor shower! It'll peak on the night of October 20 into the 21st.
- probably around 20 meteors per hour.
- good conditions to see the shooting stars because: new moon.
- look up toward the southeast for best meteor viewing.
- you might be able to spot a comet while meteor watching too!

Pro Tip: Use binoculars away from city lights for the best viewing.

SWAN Fun Fact: They think Comet SWAN takes about 22,000 years to do one complete orbit around the sun, so this is our one chance to see it. *Unless we end up like a Futurama Head-in-a-Jar. In which case, Hello Future!!

SWAN Fun Fact 2: They're not 100% sure what comet SWAN will do next... maybe disintegrate!

Lemmon Fun Fact: It'll likely be the best comet of the year.
