Neptune at opposition means the Sun, Earth and Neptune will line up like this:

Neptunerise will be around sunset, and then Neptune will be highest around midnight. (Note: It’s about as close and bright as it gets, but still hard to see.
For Moncton, 2026 Neptune-at-opposition happens tonight (Fri Sept 25 into Sat Sept 26.) Alignment occurs around 10p Atlantic Daylight Time.
Go out between 10p and midnight (when Neptune is highest) and face south or southeast. Look for Saturn first (they say it is "the obvious bright planet in that part of the sky.") Neptune is bit west/southwest of Saturn. Use binoculars and you should see a faint bluish dot. Telescope would be better.
Issue: the moon will be practically full tonight, so maybe too bright for great results.
The internet says the real reward is "knowing that tiny blue dot is an enormous ice giant about 4.3 billion kilometres away."
Final note: if you see something strange in the sky (yes, I'm talking about UFOs) help researchers by reporting it!
