Host: Welcome to Jurassic Park Purse shop. Welcome to Jurassic Purse. Hi everybody, it's Weird! This is like crazy being here. Weeeird! Really weird, dude. Bigfoot eats out of my trash. Well, I got a great show for you today. What's so wonderful? Weeeird! Oh! Hi friends, I'm Scott. This is What a Weird Week. It's a show about the weird news that happened this week and the fun things from the news. And you can get everything we talk about on our show notes page, which is at shownotes.page. This is the show for April 10, 2026.
Host: Number 10! I should say, if you have never heard our program before, we count down 10 weird news stories. We go from 10 to 1. Takes about 15 minutes. 10! Number 10 is the handbag made from dinosaur leather, sort of. It's a dinosaur leather purse where they, in a lab, grew collagen based on reconstructed T-Rex DNA. It would be, you know, it's the purse you could buy in the gift shop at Jurassic Park. I don't know if I need to say more about this. Oh, maybe how much it costs. It's going to start at $500,000 U.S. The purse or handbag is going to be, it's teal colored, by the way. I'll put a photo if you click our show notes or go to shownotes.page. A teal colored, I don't understand, handbags and purses. I, you know what it looks like to me, a handbag or a purse. Nothing, it's not in the shape of a T-Rex or anything. So, it's half a million dollars. It's going to be on display at Amsterdam's Art Zoo Museum until May, May 11th. And then I assume by then there'll be a huge lineup outside of the place. People who want to buy it and it will be sold.
Host: Number nine is the drug trial that is underway in Japan. The drug may help human beings regrow teeth. So, human trials have started. If all goes well and we grow teeth without any ill effects, they think by 2030 we'll be able to take this drug and grow teeth. Either replacing teeth or perhaps growing extra teeth. Maybe that's not an option. But let's look into that. Because that would be handy at, you know, corn boils. Eating a lot of corn on the cob, I don't know. Maybe, no, never mind that. Just growing new teeth. And how it works, the article says, it unlocks something that we all have inside of our mouth. Dormant tooth buds are in our mouth and this drug somehow unlocks that and wakes up the dormant tooth bud and we start to grow teeth. I'm not a scientist. I'm not even remotely smart. So, if you would like to read about the medicine in detail, I will put a link in the show notes or go to shownotes.page.
Host: Number eight is Hershey switching back to the classic Reese's recipe after what is described as backlash. And I would say that's accurate. The grandson of the founder of Reese's went public with the fact he did not like some of the Reese's treats and he got into reading the recipe, the ingredients in the back, and he's like, what is going on here? And I'll link to an episode. He was on an episode of Planet Money, the podcast. The Planet Money podcast is about skimflation and whether or not perhaps the recipe changed and perhaps it was because they were trying to save some money on more expensive ingredients or something. I'll link to it. You can listen to the whole thing if you want. They end up buying a whole bunch of delicious Reese's peanut butter cups and doing a taste test. Wonderful journalism. That's the kind of journalism I aspire to. Hey, join my Patreon. Just send peanut butter cups. Hershey is saying next year they're going to switch back. Everything is going to be classic recipes for all Reese's products starting in 2027.
Host: Number seven is the latest on the teleportation, the Waffle House teleportation fellow. So if you haven't been following this, a fellow named Greg who works for FEMA in the United States, and if you're unfamiliar, perhaps our program goes out over the Internet. So if you're unfamiliar with FEMA, United States of America, they are the group responsible to government organization who would show up when there are floods or fires and that sort of thing. And this Greg fellow works for FEMA. He made some statements that got picked up by some news agencies, and essentially it was that he talked about a time where he teleported to a Waffle House in Georgia, United States of America. He wasn't trying to teleport. It just happened. Sometimes it just happens, I guess, or whatever. You know, it's kind of the thing. I didn't ask for this, but at one point I was in one place, and the next moment I was in the Waffle House in Rome, Georgia. Well, the New York Times, in what I have to say, I'm not taking sides on this or whatever, but this is just good journalism. Somebody says they teleported, and you run that story down, and you check. And their headline is, "No one at Waffle House remembers FEMA official who says he teleported in." And the headline kind of says it all. If you have a moment to read the article, it's quite fascinating. I'm not sure where the science is on teleportation, but I know it would speed things up. Waffle House, have you offered free waffles for anyone who teleports in? That would probably speed things up. You would have scientists and other waffle enthusiasts working on the issue of teleportation.
Host: Number six. Number six is Domino the Baby Warty Frogfish, born at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium. I think that's the first time a warty frogfish has been born in captivity. Cute little yellow fish with some orange and a funny shape. Do you have a chance to click the photo? I just wanted to put this story in here because when you look at Domino the Warty Frogfish, it's a cute fish. I think it's good for our mental health to lay eyes on this cute fish. In a time where there has been a certain amount of serious news. I'll link to the photo. Have a look at Domino the Warty Frogfish when you have a second. You can click shownotes.page. Congratulations to all the crew at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium. Well done. Oh, and also Domino's mom and dad. Well done.
Host: Number five. Number five is a lighthearted story at first, and then it gets to be a little darker. This is the story from British Columbia. Well, first let me say, if you live where there is a university in your town, maybe there's a college or university that offers engineering, then you'd be familiar with this. Where I live, we have a university that has engineering. And in the spring of the year, towards the end of the year, the engineering students will do something. Usually there's a headline, car shows up on roof of building or something like that. They'll do some feat of engineering. And it seems to be the custom towards the end of the school year. And that is what they believe is going on in British Columbia, where the shell, what they describe as the shell of a Volkswagen Beetle, a red car, the body of a car is on the side of a cliff and there's a big E painted on the roof. So they connected the dots and they were like, okay, that probably indicates the engineering department at university of British Columbia. Maybe some students did this. Now it could be a setup. Maybe it was the phys ed department and they painted the E on there. I don't know. I watch a lot of high potential. I'm not sure if you're familiar with that show, but sometimes it's a setup. Anyway, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are investigating this because it's dangerous. If this car detached from the cable it's on, it would careen down into the roadway. There's a highway underneath. So it started as a prank and hilarious. And now danger and also perhaps a conspiracy. It could be a setup by the phys ed department. I would suggest I might call crime stoppers right now and suggest that look into the phys ed department. It could be them or not innocent till proven guilty. Investigation continues.
Host: Number four. Number four is a happy story. I'm glad we're including it, but I have to say the reason I clicked on the headline was I saw a world record and sugar. And I was like more of this, please. Cause you know, I'm always hungry, but it turns out sugar is the name of a dove in Missouri. Man's pet is officially now the oldest living dove, 44 years and 72 days old sugar. The dove. The article says doves, the life expectancy, 20 years. So sugar, you are living, right? What is the secret? Well, I'm glad you asked. Oh, you didn't. I asked. Well, I'm glad I asked. The article says sugar is favorite thing to do is watch TV. So I don't know what, there are some scary shows with cats. Are you sure you want to be watching those cat shows sugar? Oh, you watch the bird channel. Well, that's better.
Host: Number three, we go from birds to cats. This is the cat, which was in the headlines because it got stuck in a recliner. And the photo is amazing. Absolutely amazing. I'm not farming for clicks. Honestly, you don't have to click our blog for this, but if you have a chance to seek out the photo of the cat in the recliner, it's fantastic. Emergency responders in Kansas came to the rescue of a cat who became stuck inside one, you know, oh, they don't want to say the brand name. Maybe in the article, a reclining chair. First responders in Kansas came to the rescue of a cat who became stuck inside a reclining chair. The article says the cat was trying to avoid its owner because somehow it knew it was supposed to go to the vet. It didn't want to go to the vet, so it hid in the chair and became trapped. God bless the first responders who rescued that cat. And the article says the feline is fine. The cat made it to its checkup and it's fine. You're going to have to help me out here. I don't have a cat. We don't have pets. What? Is that true? Cats will know when it's time to go. Do cats read the calendar? Do they get into your phone and see that you have an alert set to go to the vet? How did the cat know it was vet time? I need more info.
Host: Number two, the bees that delayed the flight in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States of America, planet Earth. The flight delayed for about an hour and a half when a large swarm of bees gathered in one of the turbines of the airplane. They had to get some beekeepers in. So the delay was the beekeepers got to put that suit on, they got to drive all the way to the airport. They're not at the airport waiting for a call. So an hour and a half, not bad for the beekeepers to get there, get suited up, and they safely removed the bees. They were put in a bee box, bee, bee box. They were, they were put in a box. I was trying to do something there and it didn't, thought maybe we'd have at the end of this episode, maybe we could have a rap song about bees, but maybe we won't now.

Host: Honorable Mention, Mention, Mention, Mention, Mention, Mention, Mention, Mention, Mention. The headline from Fox News, dramatic video captures young fishermen battling waves to free great white shark. Yay! Woo! John! Baby John! So in that video is Kevin, who had been fishing, notices the shark trapped in the fishing line, runs into the water, grabs a hold of the shark, untangles the shark, and the shark gets freed. Rescued. It seems very dangerous to me. If you want to see the video, we'll link to it. I'll tell you, there's a couple of things. The shark was thrashing around, had to have been upset, and then there you are, Kevin, in harm's way. Just wanted to rescue that shark, so good for you. The other thing is, I'm not sure if you saw the cinematic masterpiece Jaws 3 in 3D, but that movie taught me one thing. Sometimes it's personal. You can't always trust that a shark will do the right thing, because sometimes it's personal.
Host: Number one is the marshmallow drop, which happened in Michigan, and I guess it's a tradition at Easter time. I had no idea this existed, where helicopters laden down with marshmallows will fly over a park and drop the marshmallows. And then youngsters run to fill their marshmallow baskets. Whatever. What a fun thing. Like I'm not a youngster, count me in for a helicopter marshmallow drop any time. I'll give you my pager number. You just page me the next time there's going to be the marshmallow helicopter drop, and I'm there. It was snowing at Easter time where I live, East Coast Canada, so maybe we'll have to do a helicopter marshmallow drop the one week we have of summer here where I live. That's an exaggeration. I'm just jealous. I don't know, if you're like me and you've never heard of a marshmallow drop from a helicopter before, there are a couple of things. You don't eat the marshmallows. As tempting as they might be, you're supposed to trade them in for prizes and treats. It sounds super fun. And I suppose if you don't have access to a marshmallow helicopter, maybe perhaps you just carry the marshmallows to a high point in the landscape and toss the marshmallows down into the valley. I'm sure you could improvise. It's a great idea. I can't believe I've lived my whole life and never heard of the marshmallow helicopter drop, the helicopter marshmallow drop, whatever, the marshmallow. It's raining marshmallows. Cloudy with a chance of marshmallows. Kind of got excited there about the marshmallows.
