Early on Tuesday (March 3, 2026) we get a partial lunar eclipse. It's not the full "blood moon" effect here in Moncton, but you can still catch the beginning of the whole deal before the moon sets.
What the What?
- See the Earth's dark shadow (the umbra) take a "bite" out of the moon. The moon will set before the total eclipse phase begins.
Times to Watch (Local Time AST):
- 4:44 a.m. - Penumbral Eclipse Begins: Moon starts to dim.
- 5:50 a.m. - Partial Eclipse Begins: Look for the clear, dark shadow of the Earth beginning to cover the moon.
- ~6:55 a.m. - Moonset: The moon will dip below the horizon while the partial eclipse is still in progress.
Top Viewing Tips:
- Find a Clear Western Horizon: You need an unobstructed view to the west-northwest to see the moon as it gets low and sets.
- No Special Gear Needed: You can watch the eclipse with just your eyes. *Binoculars will give you a fantastic view of the shadow moving across the lunar surface.
- Escape the Lights: For the best experience, find a spot away from bright city lights.
Notes:
- the full moon of March is the Worm Moon
