George LeBlanc, who served as mayor of Moncton from 2008 to 2016, has passed away at the age of 71 and is being remembered as a "quiet leader." He is credited with advancing major projects like the Avenir Centre and providing compassionate leadership during the 2014 RCMP tragedy (Former Mayor George LeBlanc remembered as 'the quiet leader' | Telegraph-Journal).

After the "Enough is Enough" anti-crime coalition told Moncton city council that downtown crime is worsening, the Codiac Regional RCMP responded by saying the presentation contained "a lot of inaccuracies." The RCMP stated that crime statistics have been steady, with property crime actually being lower in 2025 than in 2023 (N.B. news: RCMP responds to anti-crime coalition presentation).
