A boil water advisory continues for thousands of Moncton residents after a watermain break on December 8 in Moncton. If you're in the Hot Zone, boil water for at least one minute before consuming it. There needs to be two consecutive days of good test results before the boil water order is lifted so we hope this boil water order will be ending late today. To be continued. Canadian Blood Services hopes that you will donate blood this Christmas holiday season. The need for blood and plasma is constant and the amount that is donated takes a dip at Christmas time. There are hundreds of open appointments at Canadian Blood Services Moncton now through New Years.

Moncton has been named the 10th "rattiest" city in Canada and the first in Eastern Canada, according to pest control company Orkin's annual list for 2025 (Moncton makes Orkin's list of top rattiest cities in Canada | Telegraph-Journal). The ranking is based on the number of commercial and residential rodent treatments performed by the company, though the City of Moncton reports that its official complaints for rodents have actually decreased this year. 
 
Moncton native Katrina Langley has been named one of Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women by the Women's Executive Network (WXN) for her success in the food industry (Moncton native named one of Canada's Most Powerful Women | Telegraph-Journal). Langley is the co-owner of the Tide & Vine oyster house and market in Ontario and is also a nationally recognized, award-winning oyster shucker. 
 
The Peter McKee Community Food Centre is seeking cash donations for its Christmas food box campaign, aiming to provide 1,700 boxes valued at $100 each to people in need (Food box campaign seeks donations | Telegraph-Journal). Volunteers will pack the boxes with a turkey loaf and other essentials for delivery on December 17, while the "30 Days of Community Caring" campaign continues to raise funds with events like free concerts by musician Matt Andersen.

Moncton Wildcats head coach Gardiner MacDougall has been named an assistant coach for Team Canada at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship, and he will be joined at the selection camp by Wildcats captain Caleb Desnoyers (Wildcats coach, captain head to Team Canada training camp | Telegraph-Journal). Desnoyers is the only player from the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League to receive an invitation to the camp, which begins this week in Niagara Falls.

A legislative committee in New Brunswick has begun a year-long review of the province's Official Languages Act, which guarantees government services in both English and French. The review will re-examine the challenges of upholding bilingualism, particularly in the strained health and long-term care systems, and will consider recommendations from a 2021 report that have not yet been fully implemented.

Ability New Brunswick, in partnership with the provincial government, has launched a new online portal to help early childhood centres and daycares become more inclusive for children with mobility disabilities (New accessibility portal available for early childhood centres | Telegraph-Journal). The portal provides easy-to-navigate checklists and connects operators to a $3 million fund available for accessibility upgrades.
 
New Brunswick's auditor general has called the province's response to the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls "unacceptable," reporting that the 2023 action plan is less than 10 per cent complete and its oversight committees have never met (‘Unacceptable’: N.B. auditor general raises concerns about MMIWG response - New Brunswick | Globalnews.ca). The Bank of Canada held its key interest rate steady at 2.25 per cent in its final announcement of 2025, indicating the rate is at an appropriate level while remaining cautious heading into the new year (‘Prices have not come down,’ says Bank of Canada after holding rates - National | Globalnews.ca). Governor Tiff Macklem explained that while inflation has slowed, overall prices have not decreased, and attempting to force them down would risk a severe recession.
