Daylight Saving Time ends at 2:00a on Sunday, November 1st, 2026. Clocks Fall Back One Hour on Sunday!
It's a great time to remember to put new batteries in your smoke
detectors. Then put the old batteries in a fashionable belt bag so you have them ready to throw in self-defense if you're attacked by birds of prey. On second thought, you should recycle cycle them.

TIME CHANGE PRIMER: In NB, the Time Change has survived so far, but some Provinces have already voted to get rid of the Time Change.
YES to Time Change
These provinces and territories will observe Daylight Saving Time/ will turn clocks back one hour:- New Brunswick
- Nova Scotia
- Prince Edward Island
- Newfoundland and Labrador
- Ontario (excluding a few small northwestern regions)
- Quebec (excluding a few small northeastern regions)
- Nunavut (mostly) (en.wikipedia.org)
NO to Time Change
These provinces and territories have gotten rid of the time change and will not change clocks:
- British Columbia: did away with time change in March 2026 (cwf.ca).
- Alberta: now do permanent "Alberta Time" (UTC-6) (cwf.ca).
- Manitoba: announced in September 2026 that they are locking in Daylight Saving Time (timeanddate.com).
- Northwest Territories: said no to the time change in 2026 (en.wikipedia.org).
- Saskatchewan: Has not done the time change since 1966 (theweathernetwork.com).
- Yukon: got rid of the time change in 2020 (theweathernetwork.com).

Once again for 2026, I am re-blogging some of these Time Change Factoids. As an amateur Time Research Enthusiast, I am hopeful that consumer-grade time travel technology is close! As I have written about before, the more you look into this time change business, the more complicated it gets.
Every year I end up
covering the same things... Time Change is terrible... Time Change is
brilliant... Time Change is both... and it seems like all that is true.
- There are stats about heart attacks, traffic accidents, energy consumption, and cranky coworkers (not you, but everyone else. You're my favorite.)
- The time change might conserve energy, or it might not (depends on what study you look at).
- SOME studies say car accidents go up after the time change because our concentration gets all messed up, but another study showed that the more daylight we get during travel times, the better the driving outcomes are.
- Remember when they made Daylight Saving last longer? Certain industries LOVED it! Some experts insist that changing our clocks each Fall and Spring only happens because it helps retailers.
- The time change helps the golf industry make more cash.

- The petroleum companies do great business during extended Daylight Saving because people drive their cars more in the evening.
- It has been great for the barbecue industry too.
- Did You Know... that the big candy companies lobbied for a longer Daylight Saving Time? They wanted as many kids as possible going out to Trick-or-Treat. I can't stay mad at you, big candy.
- Has anyone asked the the team in charge of Big Ben how they feel?
In
conclusion, Time Change is complicated. Even the Fall when we move clocks back
an hour. It might still screw us up and be bad for our health and/or
safety. Yes, we get more sleep, but it's darker sooner at night and the
whole thing is stressful... and who likes stress? (correct answer is no
one. No one likes stress.) See How to deal with messed-up sleep patterns.
Here are some possible solutions to Time-Change-Related Probs:
😠Issue: Crankiness.
Solution: Just go with Cranky as your new normal. Maybe you used to be Happy-Go-Lucky... well, it's somebody else's turn to be nice now. Send an email to all your contacts explaining that you have chosen to become a jerk, and that people should "deal with it." and that they "need to calm down."
Problem solved. (Fact: People love it when you tell them that they need to calm down.)

😫 Issue: tiredness.
Solution: Get a pair of glasses with eyes painted on the lens. Wear them
to the staff meeting and people will think you're super-alert! Meanwhile, you might be having a lovely dream about kittens herding unicorns! So peaceful!!

💔 Issue: increased risk of heart attack.
Solution: handcuff yourself to a cardiologist. If it happens, your doctor is RIGHT THERE!

🚗 Issue: Traffic Accidents.
Solution: buy an Electromagnetic Pulse Device on the Dark Web and crank it up to 11. This will disable all the vehicles around you, rendering them harmless. Note: does not work on horses. It would suck to go to all the trouble of disabling every car for a hundred miles, then get run over by a horse. Don't get cocky.

Here are some other (better-researched) ways to counteract your lousy stinkin' time change mood...
- Force Yourself to Smile... (it can trick your brain into being happy)
- Stand up straight (you had it right, mom)
-
Force Yourself to Make Small Talk (Pro Tip: if you're terrible at small
talk like me, bring a microscope to work and carry it around all day.
When people are like "what's the deal with the microscope?" You can say
it's for small talk. The commitment to the joke will be hilarious.)
- Put your hands up (like you're gonna be arrested?! 30 seconds of that and you're less stressed somehow)
-Do a good deed!
⏰ Some Daylight Saving history... many people have thought about the concept...
- Ben Franklin had the idea, but Ben Franklin might have been joking...
- another fella, this guy in New Zealand thought everybody should do Daylight Saving way back in 1895... also the great great grandfather of the lead singer of Coldplay had Daylight Saving ideas too. Then Coldplay had that "Clocks" song!? There are no coincidences!!
