What: the Orionids are space debris from Halley's Comet. Each October, the earth (our current planet) travels through the debris field and comet dust burns up in our atmosphere, resulting in shooting stars.
When: the Orionid meteor shower happens between Oct 2 and November 7, but the meteor shower PEAKS overnight Wed, Oct 21 into early Thurs, Oct 22. The moon is quite bright this year so it'll be harder to see the shooting stars (shakes fist at moon.) The best time to watch is after moonset, between 3a and dawn on Thursday morning. Expect 10 to 20 shooting stars per hour.
Where: look towards the southeastern sky. You shouldn't need a telescope or binoculars, just look up. *your eyes will adjust to the dark better if you stop looking at your phone screen.
Weather: looks like possible clouds and cold.
Scotty note: as always, if you see something strange in the sky (yes, I'm talking about UFOs) help researchers by reporting it!
Report a sighting: find an enormous list of resources at https://uforum.blogspot.com/search?q=report+a+sighting and here is another link to report directly to the Canadian UFO survey https://www.canadianuforeport.com/survey/reportfrontpage.html
