Time Change Monday (Nov 3, 2025) means you need to drive safe and listen to your heart! - science

Scotty
icymi, Clocks fell back one hour on Sunday morning.
Not gonna lie, today may not be great for us. Research seems to indicate that the time change messes with our circadian rhythm, and that's bad. See https://www.popsci.com/health/daylight-saving-time-health-2/

Notes:
- If you haven't put new batteries in your smoke detector yet, this time of year is a perfect time to remember to do that. Then put the old batteries in a sack and carry them around for protection in case a wild boar charges you . *Or recycle them

- We're still waiting to see if Time Change will go away forever. Some Provinces have already voted to get rid of Spring Forward/ Fall Back. Ontario wants to end the time change but can't do much until Quebec and New York State join up. New York seems to want to stop changing clocks but everything is still in the "to be continued" phase. Quebec is looking into it also. The British Sleep Society wants the time change to stop also #WaitToSee

icymi, I have vowed to continue my amateur research into time until time travel is invented. This time change business is complicated: Time Change is terrible ... Time Change is brilliant ... Time Change is both!
- There are stats about heart attacks, traffic accidents, energy consumption, and cranky coworkers (not you though, everyone else.)
- The time change might conserve energy, or it might not (depends on what study you look at).
- SOME studies say car accidents go up after the time change because our concentration gets all messed up, but another study showed that the more daylight we get during travel times, the better the driving outcomes.
Remember when they changed Daylight Saving (Spring time change) to start earlier and last a bit longer? Certain industries LOVED it! Some experts insist that changing our clocks each Fall and Spring only happens because it helps retailers.
- The time change helps the golf industry make more cash.
- The petroleum companies do great business during extended Daylight Saving because  people drive their cars more in the evening.
- It has been great for the barbecue industry too.
- Did You Know... that the big candy companies lobbied for a longer Daylight Saving Time? They wanted as many kids as possible going out to Trick-or-Treat. I can't stay mad at you, big candy.
- Don't get me wrong, not everybody loves DST (looking at you, airline industry... and farmers.)
- Has anyone asked the the team in charge of Big Ben how they feel?

In conclusion, Time Change is complicated. Even the Fall when we move clocks back an hour, we get an extra hour of sleep, but it might still screw up our health and/or safety. Yes, we get more sleep, but it's darker sooner at night and the whole thing is stressful. No one likes stress. *See note at top re circadian rhythm.

😠 Issue: Crankiness.
Solution: Just go with Cranky as your new normal. Maybe you used to be Happy-Go-Lucky ... well, it's somebody else's turn to be nice now. Send a note in the group chat explaining that you have chosen to become a jerk, and that people should "deal with it" and that they "need to calm down."
(People love it when you tell them they need to calm down.)

😫 Issue: tiredness.
Solution: Get a pair of glasses with eyes painted on the lens. Wear them to the staff meeting and people will think you're super-alert.

💔 Issue: increased risk of heart attack.
Solution: handcuff yourself to a cardiologist. If it happens, at least your doctor is close-by.

🚗 Issue: Traffic Accidents.
Solution: this might be a day to arrive by dog sled instead of car. If you don't have access to a sled team, one of those light cycles from TRON might do the trick also.

Here are some other (better-researched) ways to counteract your lousy stinkin' time change mood ...
- Force Yourself to Smile... (it can trick your brain into being happy)
- Stand up straight (you had it right, mom)
- Force Yourself to Make Small Talk (Pro Tip: if you're terrible at small talk like me, bring a microscope to work and carry it around all day. When people are like "what's the deal with the microscope?" You can say, "It's for small talk!" Your commitment to the joke will earn respect.
- Put your hands up like you're gonna be arrested ... or like you just won a race. 30 seconds of that is supposed to make you feel less stressed.
- Do a good deed!

⏰ Some Daylight Saving history...
Ben Franklin talked about it, but there's a good chance that he was joking. I don't really get Ben Franklin's sense-of-humor. See this link for more.
More: A fellow in New Zealand thought about doing Daylight Saving in 1895 ... also, the great great grandfather of the lead singer of Coldplay had Daylight Saving ideas. Then Coldplay had that "Clocks" song!? There are no coincidences!!
