Perseid Meteor Showers and things in the Sky Aug 12 &13th, 2025 *Please stay out of the woods because of Wildfire Risk

Scotty

The Perseid Meteor Showers happen every August and are among the best shooting star viewing we get each year. See notes below, and please keep-in-mind that the region is under a burn ban and a stay-out-of the-woods order because 1) human activity in the woods can lead to wildfires when the conditions are as dry as they are now and 2) if you become injured or require help in the woods that help might not be readily available or able to get to you because so many people and resources are in place fighting our wildfires. Please don't chance putting a strain on firefighting efforts/ putting yourself in harm's way/ possibly causing a fire.

Aug 12th early morning hours watch for a Venus/ Jupiter/ Mercury/ Saturn/ Moon planet parade.
How it will look from Moncton: https://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/night/

The Perseid Meteor Showers are here until ~Aug 24th but peak viewing is Aug 12th night into Aug 13th early morning. See link below for details on where to look and when, but essentially if you find the horizon and then start looking up from there, you're probably gonna see some shooting stars. Meteors can appear in any part of the sky according to https://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/meteor-shower/perseid.html

Notes:
- please don't go into the woods as there is a very high forest fire risk on the East Coast - instead try watching from the beach maybe!
- You don't need any fancy equipment for this meteor shower, just look at the sky.
- Remember to blink once in awhile.

BTW, if you ever see a fireball, you should report it. HERE's the link.

If you see something STRANGER THAN A FIREBALL you should report that too!
